Some people wear uniforms for their jobs as nurses, policemen, soldiers or athletes. But sometimes we don’t think of the clothes we wear as a kind of uniform. Do you make sure to wear the same kind of shoes or pants or hair style that all of your friends wear? Clothes show what group we belong to or wish to belong to. In these pictures we see Guatemalan men wearing a style of pants that, except for the decorations, are very much like the baggy, below the knees shorts that many boys wear. Similar though they are to cargo shorts, could you picture wearing them in your neighborhood? The particular embroidered designs on the pants tell others in the region where these men come from. Is that similar to wearing a New Yankees or a Detroit Tigers baseball hat to let people know where you’re coming from?
